Yes, as others have already reported, it's safe.
However, certain ferret shampoos seem to be better a
keeping odor down. We really like Kenic Ferret Gleem
which also leaves them with a beautiful coat. Since
we don't bathe our fuzzies often at all a bottle lasts
a very long time, as in a couple of years.
In my experience our ferrets smell better and their
coats look better if we bathe every two or three
months. I agree that it keeps hairballs to a minimum
as well. I also agree with those that say bathing too
often will dry out their skin and actually cause more
odor.
