Thanks for the great info - I had read all about lupron when Cleo was first diagnosed and the dosage has worked for so long, I never realized the dosage was low. Now after re-reading everything, I was surprised.

I'm also very interested in the melatonin being used with the lupron. I would really like to try that also, maybe that would be the answer for her. The only negative effect I read, was a headache, are there others? I would like to adminster the melatonin myself. I read it was in a liquid form, is that correct?

I'm really looking forward to keeping my little sweet heart, healthy and happy (and free from bathing in ice coffee - her stunt this morning) for as long as I can.

Thanks for all the info, I've been reading from the sidelines for years,
LJ and Cleo the "rebel rouser"

I would be surprised to hear 37.5 mcg works at all and I wouldn't hold out too much hope for 77 mcg, though in some cases, I suppose that might be effective. Most vets I know give a minimum of 100 mcg of the one-month Lupron and sometimes it requires more than that to have an effect. Just as a point of reference, I give mine 1 mg of the four-month Lupron. That is the equivalent of giving 250 mcg per month of the one-month Lupron.

LH is what is stimulating the adrenals to release sex hormones. So at least initially, Lupron is having exactly opposite the effect we want. However, after a period of time (several hours) the effect of Lupron on the pituitary is to desensitize it, causing it's output of LH to be stopped.

Not being a pharmacologist or doctor, I can't say that is what is happening.

Basically that the effect which normally would be seen earlier and more rapidly on with the standard doses is having to happen gradually bit by bit as the depot releases it meds over time. (Depots are time release meds.)
