That's a good one.

In most cases the sties, like pimples (which have the same usual principal), will just dislodge their heads on their own, but i got curious if perhaps the smooth (and therefore non-irritating) and curved shape (so gently increasing pressure) of a wedding ring might be able to dislodge heads from skin plug-ups so tested the premise on some pimples. The success rate was low, but it did work some of the time. It's not the gold or the use of the ring which matters, of course, but the smoothness and the shape. It's not terribly successful, though, and the one it worked on, and the other for which it bright the head up high enough that it will probably dislodge itself were both pimples that are most likley to go on their own rapidly so it just speeded things up a bit. (Not advised as a practise; see what your dermatologist wants done for human skin just as you check with your vet for ferret problems.)

If this ferret has a history of allergy to ragweed like one of our's did, or to something else in the environment right now it is also possible that it might have been a blister from allergies, and those pop on their own or with some pressure often enough, too.
