Thanks for posting Sukie.

You brought up some very scarey ideas. I am located in northern West Virginia. The ferret vet 70 miles from home is the first vet that I have taken either ferret to that I felt knew ferrets. He came across as very professional and up to date on ferret problems.

I feel that he has diagnosed her problem accurately, every since she has lived with us she has shown all of the classic signs of Insulomina, I just misread them. She has thrown up a clear mucus once a month, pawed at her mouth, made grinding noises, trembled when waking up, and stared off into space.

I feel bad that i did not recognize the problem and have let her suffer for all this time when the Pred would have helped control her problem. We just figured she was cold natured since she was so tiny compared to our male. The staring off into space we assumed that she was just not very bright.

When we were trying to get her to eat, I would syringe feed her whatever I thought she might eat. We finally came across something that she quit fighting and will eat on her own out of a bowl if we hold her.

I have been grinding an assortment of name brand ferret kibble and using low sodium chicken broth to thin it. Do you think that the amount of salt in the broth may be causing her to retain water? I tried using just water this evening in her kibble and she ate it without a problem. I am going to quit using the chicken broth and see if that helps.

Thanks again for the reply!
