There is always hope but it depends on the cause and if the steroids can
help him maintain the platelets he rec'd in the transfusion. Causes are
drug induced, tick bourne diseases, unknown, etc. Also depends on if it is
accompanied by anemia. Avoid all immune stimulants. Another option is a
splenectomy which sometimes stabilzes the lss of platelets. Time will
answer your questions but keep him quiet and see if his numbers improve.
