There are several courses of action that can be taken. This is rarely cured, and survival times vary. At 6 years old, he could very well live out the rest of a fairly normal life with proper treatment.

The options are, surgery to remove visible nodules on the pancreas, a partial pancreatectomy, which means removing part of the pancreas and therefore bettering the odds of getting more of the virtually invisible insulinomas and last but not least, drug treatment (prednisone and/or diazoxide).

Personally, I don't lean towards the surgery options, but that's just me. I'm sure we'll hear from those that disagree with me and I do understand and in some cases, that might be the right way to go.
