Subject: straining to urinate

My little male ferret (5.5 years old) is being showing sometimes for the pa=
st couple of months some straining to urinate, he does not cries or complai=
ns, but instead of peeing "fluenty", the pee comes out in pulses, each time=
we contracts his belly to push the pee out. This has been happening very g=
radually and so far I am sure that he has had his bladder completely empty =
each time, but anyway this is an alert to me to keep a close look on him to=
see if things get worse. He shows no classic signs of adrenal with the onl=
y exception of an adrenal panel taken one and a half year ago where estradi=
ol was just a bit over the range. Being back in Mexico has made me things d=
ifficult to repeat the test, but I finally going to have his hormones measu=
red and I will wait to see if there are more "high" numbers in the result t=
o see what to do next about the possibility of adrenal tumors. =

But I also suppose that I can=B4t run out other options like crystals or st=
ones. Being this less probable than the first option (adrenals) I don=B4t f=
eel confortable with the idea of doing a cystocentesis to get a urine sampl=
e. I would like to know if you know any tip or advice on how to get some ur=
ine for analysis by just collecting it in his litter pan, how many mililite=
rs would be necessary for a basic anaylisis? Is analysing urine the only wa=
y to rule out crystals or stones?
Thank you very much,
A worried mom,
Caterina.
