Hi Kathy,
I give mine milkbones, they're only about 1 inch long, I have to buy them in the pet food store they don't come prepackaged. I mentioned this to two of my vets and they didn't seem to be alarmed by this. My guys don't seem to eat a variety of anything and the cookies are their treats. I have to watch it though because they tend to want one every time I go into the kitchen, so I've started to give them a half instead of a whole one each time

You all so nice to reply when I asked for information on round cell
tumors. He did have it removed (as well as adrenal surgery) on Tuesday,
but has a hugely swollen foot.
Maybe I'm just being over worried, but I am greatly concerned for Poopie
(Raisin). He seemed to have done well through surgery for his adrenal
and having some nodules removed from his pancreas. Surprisingly enough
that is all doing very well with little bruising.
He is eating well and drinking a lot of water. Eliminating well and
peeing a lot.
The problem is his left front leg and foot. The round cell tumor
actually reached farther down from his ankle than we thought. They put
some stitches in and bandaged it up. I thought the type of bandage they
used was like the stretchy kind to allow for swelling and he was walking
ok on it from bed to bowl in a one level recovery cage. I had brought
him to work with me on Wednesday and he seemed to be doing well on
Thursday morning. It was a busy morning and at the last minute I
decided I was being overly cautious and didn't bring him to work. I
should have and now I am so sorry I didn't.
I called on the way home to the vet and asked if I could bring him by
and have his bandage changed as well as picking up some antibiotics.
When I got home his foot was so swollen I rushed him right over.
When they took off the bandage it was the sticky kind. I can't imagine
why they would put that type of bandage on and in my opinion should have
known there would be swelling. After they took the bandage off his foot
swelled even bigger. I made them give him a shot for the pain as I
couldn't imagine that he wouldn't be in agony after seeing his foot. Dr.
XXXX wasn't there and I saw another doctor who sees ferrets but is not
as experienced. I also had them give me some compounded buffered
aspirin to take home. They cleansed his foot and told me to rub the
foot and the leg to encourage better circulation. Let me tell you I
tried to but how can you rub around stitches and a hugely swollen foot?
There is no way to "elevate" it nor keep him still for "cold
compresses".
His foot does not look better to me today, it is still very swollen and
red (not like it is infected but very pink). He is walking on it a bit
but I can tell it really hurts him. I already called to see Dr. XXXXX
today as she did the surgery and would feel better if she looked at it
before the weekend starts.
I am so worried, is there any thing else that any of you can think of
that I should be doing?
