The recommended anesthetics for surgery in ferrets is Isoflurane or Sevoflurane. These are very safe and the ferret wakes up very quickly once this type (gas) of anesthetic is stopped.

You probably want to avoid any type of injectible anesthetic because you can't back off of the anesthetic once it's given. There may be some instances where this is the appropriate type to use.
