Di,
My ferret, Bubbles, had a bad cough that started this past December. I
took her to the vets thinking it was her heart. He x-rayed her and seen that
her heart was only very slightly enlarged but he did feel a thickening in her
abdomen. She did have major surgery last summer for an inflamed duedenum, had
her left adrenal removed and had her stomach cut open and cleaned out (due
to food not being able to leave her stomach which caused bloating). We were
thinking that she may have some scar tissue so we scheduled a biopsy. The
biopsy came back as necrotic tissue so I was holding on to hope that it was scar
tissue. Exploratory was scheduled but 2 days before her surgery she took a
turn for the worse and was rushed into surgery that morning and it turned out
that she did have a large mass in her abdomen, believed to be cancer, and also
had a bruised looking kidney and what looked like cancer on her pancreas. We
made the decision to let her go on the table but she went into cardiac arrest
and went on her own. All this started with that cough (which was brought on
by the mass), so its just a thought you should consider. Not saying that is
what is wrong with Coco. I hope this is not the case and yours has a happier
ending than mine.
