That's an excellent point and it relates to a conversation elsewhere on the importance of vaccinations.
The way it relates is this:
You tend to forget the horrors of what you are missing.
With spaying you forget the horrors of death from anemia.
With vax you forget the horrors of the diseases you avoid.
A lot of times what you are missing is incredibly worse than the risks you face with the change.
