Hi, everyone,
We had two male ferrets (recues, originally lab
ferrets) who weren't altered until sexually mature at
approximately nine months of age. One never had
adrenal disease but the other, Podo, did. Onset of
the disease was at age seven and a half.
Our vet believes late altering does correlate with
healthier, longer lived ferrets based on nearly three
and a half decades of experience. However, he
believes it is only one of a number of factors. Top
of his list is the relatively small gene pool among
breeders in the U.S.
