Yes, you do need to test for Canine Distemper (though it sounds less likley now than before) as well as starting some general tests and imaging.
Also, ulcers need to be considered and at least a prescription for Carafate/Sulfracte.
This ferret needs vet care and testing to find out what is happening.

Ferrets do NOT get colds. Humans get colds from a rhinovirus which ferrets do not get. Ferrets get bacterial sinus infections (which they can share with humans), Influenza A (ditto) and some more serious respiratory illnesses.
The mystery disease (DIM) has been seen now by Doctors Garner and Burgess in some older ferrets (none in the same households as earlier infections and with ferret sources other than MF seen now), but this sounds different in some ways.
