Uli, hopefully, the urethra is only inflammed, rather than ther being any crystals in it.

Repeated cystos by the vet wold give an inflammed urethra time to go down; they may also dislodge and remove any small stones, as happened with our Hilbert.

I am assuming that oen of these may be going on since his bladder would not empty when you attempted to express it.

Right now it is important that he have normal post op care bt also have those cystos if the vet can't express him so that he doesn't have urine back up into his ureters or even right up to his kidneys. That could cause infection and kidney damage.

If this appraoch doesn't work then your vet will consider a PU -- which will allow him to bypass his penis to urinate.
