This letter is to update Sukie, Dr. Sue, and all of the others that took the time to reply to my earlier posting. Thank you for your advice and concerns.

My wife took Sophie to the local vet the next day after Sukie expressed concerns that her swelling in her belly area could be a serious sign. He was at a loss to what the problem might be. He did try to draw fluids by inserting a needle into her side. He only got a small amount of clear fluid that contained fatty substance. He recommende that she see the ferret specialist.

I emailed the ferret specialist and enclosed the pictures that I posted on this list. he replied that it was most likely an enlarged spleen which would not require any special attention but may have to be removed. He wanted to see her.

We took her to see him on Monday, August 30. He examined her and determined that the knots on her neck and swollen stomcah indicated that the Insulomina cancer had spread to her lymph system and that she only had a few weeks of quality time left.

He did prescribe Furosemide oral solution, 10 mg/ml at 0.2cc twice daily to try and flush excess fluids out of her body. After giving her this doasge since Friday, September 3rd, We at first thought that maybe her skin was not stretched as tightly, but maybe this is just wishful thinking.

In conclusion, thanks again for all of you that took the time to try and help her. I guess it will be up to me to determine when her quality of life has degraded to the point that she needs to go to the Bridge.

BTW, we have cut her Pred back to 0.55cc twice daily gradually, with no sign of reducing the swelling in her belly.

Right now she is enjoying being hand fed, carried up the stairs, and her nightly walks around the outside of the house.
