Any stressor can cause stomach ulcers or gastritis. I would have her on the carafate 10 minutes before each feeding. If she is not
eating and drinking enough, even some sub Q fluids to keep her
hydrated- but if she seems to drink ok and poop/pee well that may
not be necessary.

I allow my kids post op back out pretty soon, almost all have been
exploratories for adrenal or insulinoma, and they eat the same night and by the 2nd day if pacing, or alert and active they come out-
I take them out supervised to walk around a few minutes and watch them like a hawk. Then back in the post-op one level cage for rest. I hand feed them the chicken baby food, or chicken gravy, a/d,etc by hand feed until taking kibble from their bowls. I watch the water intake, and use paper towels in the litter box so I cna see how much urine/stool is being put out.

Some ferrets get along better with others, so if the my ferret is eating well and very active, I allow back with his/her best buddy by the 3-4th day. I then still only allow supervised play out of the cage until the suture site looks well healed, ( usually by the 5th day) and then allow back into the group and play time. If I had a very active ferret who was a climber, and got into trouble I woudl keep in the cage and supervised play time a bit longer. By the 10th day all shoudl be healed and back to normal and no problems with play.

Now, each ferret and situation is different. I have been lucky not to have a prolonged recovery or a ferret or a ferret's buddy tear out stitches or not heal well. I find that they heal very fast, in fact, sometimes by the 5th day there is fur growing in and the incision site is hard to see.

Since this is your first post-op experience, I would error on the side of caution and wait longer before allowing climbing and the vet's all clear before active play time is allowed.

that a sign that the stress of the whole ordeal caused her ulcers to
reoccur?

Thanks so much! This group is really a blessing to have at a time like
this. (You're a real gem, Sukie! :-)
