BTW, depending on what it does the bump MIGHT be an early sign of a fistula developing -- a drainage port for the infection in an area away from the original infection. Yes, infections can eat through bone sometimes which is one reason why certian types of infection in the sinuses, inner ear, etc. must be taken very seriously due to nearness to the brain and important organs.

It might not hurt to try to do a culture and find out if a certain antibiotic is a better one for this target, but these infections can be very hard to treat and can be long term, so that may help but will not necessarily help.

(The remains of one of the worst of the Nazi era criminals was finally identified after death largely due to the scar of a fistula in just such a location on his skull, BTW, in work done by Snow if I recall properly.)
