I had a ferret at one point that had an adrenalectomy on the right side and when the
vet went to look for the left adrenal gland he could not find it. The theory was that
the right adrenal gland had been overproducing for so long that the other
completely atrophied. He still showed adrenal symtoms for the remainder of his
life, but no more tissue was found that could be removed. Although on a handful of
medicines, he lived happily for a couple of year after this. Hopefully this helps.
