HI, new member here..
My Boo is over 5 yrs. old; not exact at the age as we took him in from a family. He's been diagnosed w/Adrenal Gland disease and Insulinoma for approx. 6 months. Our vet seems to think he was already mid-advanced stages of Insulinoma by the time he started with his "episodes"- the circling, drooling,
panting, etc. He recommended that, with his age, surgery may not be the most stable option. At first the episodes were lasting minutes. So, the vet started him on the Prednisone and melatonin for the adrenal disease. As we gradually increased the dosage of the Pred, Boo seemed to not have the episodes anymore and began
to hop around with his pals. Over the months, we've increased slowly if he had an episode.
Now, for his weight and size, we are maxed out on the dosage and
I've been dealing with episodes just about every day this week. They've been long, at least 6-8 hrs. Given time and lots of patients from a reluctant mom to keep him going, he's come out of them alright. Then he's fine for a day,and then bad.
Two days ago, he had an episode where his body felt cold. Once he started pulling out of it his body temp returned to normal. Today's episode has been the strangest and newest thing. I don't know what to make of it, that's why I'm
writing..
Today he's not had the circling, drooling, panting. It's like his body weakness is there, so he's not walking. He's laying down, normal body temp. But, he's not responsive to food, water, syringe, scents that he normally loves to sniff (like chicken, his kibble,etc.). Usually, if I see a nose twitch, i know
he's still with me. Today, he's blinking occasionally, but no nose twitches. I don't know if I should continue to try and get him to come around and syringe him some honey in his cheek, small bits of water, etc. or if I just let him
rest? When I kiss his head, he huffs a sigh as if to say, "Mommy, I'm trying"..Does anyone know if this may be final stages of his Insulinoma? Because, I don't want him suffering or in pain. But, I just don't want to make a rash
decision if he may have another answer. My vet is out of the state for another 2 weeks, and I'm kinda having to wing it on my own.
Any help is appreciated. Sorry for the long email..
Crying mommy..
