Background:My 4 yr old boy ferret Edgar has adrenal disease. His left gland was removed in August of 2003, and began to show symptoms of right gland infection 3 mon later. He was already on melatonin at that time. Due to my lack of funding at the time I started him on some herbal remedy stuff instead of lupron or surgery, which didn't help him and he ended up having a urinary blockage in May 2004. He went to the E-clinic where they attempted to catheterize him. They were not successful, but managed to "move" the mucus plug he had oin his urethra that was causing the blockage. He are his urine results at that time
amt 3cc
SG 1.037
pH 5
Neg. for protein, glucose, ketones, bilirubin, urobilinogen
~50 RBCs present, WBCs too numerous to count
too thick to see if bacteria present
He was put on baytril for the infection and propecia in case the infection was linked to prostate issues from adrenal disease. He recovered well.
In July 2004 I quit giving propecia and melatonin (trying to save money)and put him solely on Lupron 250mcg. He got the 1-mon dept until Sept, then I switched to the 4mon depot (1mg/250mcg a mon). In the last few days I have noticed him having urine on his belly after urinating, which isn't like him. I started him back on propecia and melatonin yesterday and brought him in for a UA today. here are the results...
amt 3cc
SG 1.040
pH 6
protein 60
negative for glucose, ketones, bilirubin, urobilinogen
WBCs and RBCs too numerous to count
Cocci bacteria 2+
Rod bacteria 1+
Epi cells 1+
I am starting him on baytril again...but what else should I do? What do these results mean? The vets I work for know nothing about ferrets, and I can't afford to go somewhere else. Any advice would be great. Thanks alot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
