They are quinoline compounds with "somewhat similar structures".

The similarity of the two drugs is one reason why there are many infectious=
disease specialists who want Baytril to no longer be given to farm animals=
on a routine basis (and in Europe it is actually more common for other app=
roaches to be used now). Cipro is useful against several forms of food poi=
soning but the typical U.S. chicken is given Baytril so often that forms of=
those bacteria who are resistant to both Baytril and it's cousin Cipro ap=
pear to have become another but inadvertent product of some farms where peo=
ple thought they'd been doing the best thing for the public. Hence, most o=
f the resources I found on these antibiotics were on just that topic (and a=
ll referred to the drugs as "cousins", "sister drugs", "related", "similar"=
, etc. Examples:

In this reading I find that it's a touchy topic which has potential impact =
for pet animals because although there are those who have a sense of modera=
tion and want to stop the routine giving of antibiotics to farm animals (wh=
ich makes sense to me personally) there are also a few who overreact and wa=
nt to retain antibiotics for human use only (but now I'll stop because that=
is bordering on breaking the FHL rules in terms of avoiding political topi=
cs and I don't want to dance too close to that line). =

So, getting back on topic they aren't the same but very similar.
