Dear Ulrike,

I have a castrated 3 year old hob with fully diagnosed adrenal disease, i.e.adrenal disease diagnosed using the appropriate laboratory tests. The ferret has been on Vetoryl for two months now.

Prior to treatment the ferret was bald apart from his face, legs and tail. He was lethargic (apart from being 'amorous') and smelt like an intact male. Additionally his skin was flushed and hot to the touch.

Within a few days of Vetoryl treatment, his skin became paler and cooler; people remarked on how much better he smelt; and he stopped 'bothering' the jills. He also became much more boisterous and interested in his food.

Three weeks after starting treatment, we noticed the 'brusing effect' at the hair margins that is indicative of new hair growth. The hair growth continued and spread, so much so that now, 2 months after treatment, he is well on the way towards having a good coat of hair everywhere except where the baldness first started,i.e. on the spine, near the base of the tail. He has just had his second set of laboratory tests to assess his adrenal function and we are waiting for the results to see exactly what is happening with his hormones.

It is early days, and obviously, there is a chance that the treatment may not continue to work longterm, or might be having an inappropriate effect on his hormones, etc. Nevertheless, I have been very happy over the past few weeks to have my boisterous, fun loving, furry ferret back.
