Personally, I'd say to start him on A/D or any other soft food he
likes right now. It certainly won't harm him, and if he's not eating
really well, it will stop him from losing weight. Also, if you mix the
soft food with a bit of warm water, it will help prevent any further
dehydration.

Then, as long as he's eating his soft food well, and taking his
medication, keep an eye out for his overall recovery.

There is no reason NOT to feed a ferret healthy soft food when they're
feeling badly... and if a ferret stops eating, in many cases
(especially if it's only an infection, rather than a major internal
problem) giving subQ fluids will start to bring them around, and the
soft food is just the extra bit to help them start feeling a lot
better again.
