Just a side note, for anyone who might also use those toys (I've never
bought them myself):

It would seem to me this kind of obstruction might be prevented by
regular 'treats' of hairball remedy... Perhaps giving a small ribbon
of it any time you see a ferret playing with one of the balls?

What I give my kids is actually a 50/50 mix of Ferretvite paste and
plain petroleum jelly... (The commercial Ferretlax is the same malt
syrup/oil base as Ferretvite, mixed with petroleum jelly) The
petroleum jelly doesn't get digested, and so gets mixed with any other
indigestibles and helps everything slide through.

(Although after your experience, I'd be most inclined to just throw
all the balls away and get non-fuzzy toys.)
