One thing we used to have around all the time for those whose meds were no longer enough -- when we had to begin adding dietary sugars, too -- is what we call "Nutrical Soup". Mix Nutrical with water and then let it sit till you can remove the film that develops (which they seem to hate on their whiskers). Replace several times a day. (The easiest way to mix the Nutrical with water that we have found is to use two forks.)
Pred tends to contribute to weight gain so it's a Catch 22 situation, I'm afraid, because the Pred is needed.
