Subject: Very High ALT level
Message-ID: <5879883.1097011793277.JavaMail.root@thallium.smartgroups.com>
I suspected my 6 year old ferret was developing insulinoma. He has not been eating well (even chicken gravy, which he normally loves) losing weight, and has experienced hind end weakness. I took him to the vet yesterday and had blood work done. His glucose was 52, which I know is low.
However, his ALT level is 1383, and on the lab sheet it has that it was verified by a repeat test. Other readings are:
AST - 320
ALBUMIN - 2.7
ALK PHOSPHATASE - 133
WBC - 8
HCT - 41.8
MONOCYTES - 9
I know the ALT and AST have to do with his liver. Can these levels be high due to the insulinoma and his not eating? We've started him on pred.
Thanks,
Connie
