Subject: Persistant swallowing when held
Message-ID: <001001c4ab82$3fe8b510$7628ff3e@yourvsa8xygmg8>
Hi everyone,
Ellie, who is a 6/7 year old jill has been very lethargic and lost a consid=
erable amount of weight. blood tests were all normal apart from a slightly=
low glucose of 4.4 - vet said 5, was normal range. =
Also a higher than normal amount of lymphocytes. My vet thinks she's fight=
ing an infection, but we don't know what/where.
Ellie was given a course of Synulox (antibiotic) and has improved slightly =
in energy levels. Also she's gained 20gms in the last 2 weeks, so it's def=
initely helped.
One thing that I really can't understand is her persistent swallowing. She=
does it after food/drink even when her mouth is empty, but this does subsi=
de after a few seconds. However, when I pick her up (when she's had no foo=
d/drink) and hold her upright, she swallows constantly - at least once ever=
y two seconds. She's been doing this for many months now, but recently it'=
s got worse.
I did wonder if perhaps I was interpreting teeth grinding for swallowing, b=
ut I've gently felt under her chin and can definitely feel her throat movem=
ent as a swallow.
I'm thinking that perhaps she's producing excessive saliva when held, but w=
hat might cause this?
Any ideas are greatly appreciated
carol
