Subject: adrenal surgery with marsupialization?? Need Advice
Message-ID: <205256.1097072336431.JavaMail.root@thallium.smartgroups.com>

Hey everyone,

My Edgar has an infected right adrenal gland. He had his left removed in Au=
g 2003 (I won't go back to the that vet, it was a bad experience). Now he i=
s having prostate problems (ie; chronic bladder infections). I have some pr=
evious posts on this if anyone wants more background info. The vets I work =
for know VERY little about ferrets, so things are usually done based on wha=
t I have read up on, and consulting with other more knowledgeable ferrets (=
which in MN is very FEW). Recently my vet spoke to another vet the performs=
many cryo surgeries on adrenal ferrets to see what he recommended for Ed's=
case. He said he could do remove his right adrenal, but he would also have=
to due marsupializtion to him as well. Now, As much as the idea of marsupi=
alizing him upsets me, I might consider it, except this vet has only done i=
t once before, and no other vet in the state I know of has. Pluys, the surg=
ery would be WAY out of my budget. I could possibly afford to just remove t=
he right gland, but it sounds like from other posts that cryo isnt the grea=
test at getting all of the right gland removed due to vena cava proximity. =
I have decided to continue to treat Edgar medically with 1-mon Lupron injec=
tions, propecia, and melatonin. We are also going to inject dye into his ur=
ethra under sedation to look at his bladder and prostate better on x-ray. H=
as anyone ever done this before or heard of this? I guess my fear is that I=
won't be able to get his bladder issues under control with medicine, so we=
may HAVE to surgery later, and then it may be too late (tumor too big to c=
ryogenically remove).
