Subject: Several scabs on body

I searched archives, but am unsure if my case fits those I found. One of my ferrets, 5yr old male, has developed scabs over his body. Here and there, would say he has about 20 scabs. Even next his eye, under his stomach, next to his mouth. I have changed bedding, moved him to a new cage, checked the other ferrets, he is the only one.
He is in good spirits and playful as always. Thick healthy coat. His last vet visit about 3 months ago he was healthy, no insulinoma (blood value tested) or adrenal or anything else, but then he didn't have the scabs then either. No change to diet.
His other problem at the moment is one sore on the bottom of each rear foot. I had some health problems and was changing their litter box/area every other day for a couple weeks recently instead of daily and that is when these sores started.
I am considering taking him to the vet (of course!) but my vet isn't as up on ferrets, and there isn't one that is in the area (I have searched). And it doesn't seem to be an emergency as he is in good health otherwise.
Any advice is welcome. They are back to getting a daily cleaning, and I am washing his feet, and it isn't spreading but hard to tell if it is getting any better (the foot sores). I have been trying to clean his scabs a few a day, thinking a bath with soap might irritate his skin worse.
Thanks for any help,
