Subject: Scent glands and different vet opinions

A friend has a ferret with scent glands that keep filling up. He has had th=
em emptied twice since August, and now they're huge again. The vet he norma=
lly uses now wants to try and flush them out and then perhaps put the ferre=
t on antibiotics (neither has been done earlier). Another vet (who hasn't l=
ooked at the ferret yet) says that it's no point doing this and wants to re=
move the glands. The owner doesn't want to have the glands removed unless s=
trictly necessary, because of the risc involved, the high cost (at least =A3=
200) and because he thinks a ferret should get to keep his glands, they're =
there for a reason (couldn't agree more). =

So the question is, is flushing and antibiotics pointless or worth a try? C=
ould an infection be the reason for the swelling?
