Hydration is essential. It is not only needed for health, including avoiding kidney damage, but a dehydrated ferret will tend to not be interested in food. If the mucus membrances aren't wet enough the sense of smell decreases, too, which further reduces interest in food.

Is there some way for someone to get home every 4 hours or so provide a "soup" of water, baby food or a/d and perhaps some ground-up kibble?

Is he having any trouble swallowing?

Have you considered doing sub-cus daily or even more often till he begins drinking again or does your vet think that he is not dehydrated enough to warrent it?

Is he on any meds for other conditions? (Asking because some can affect hydration.)
