Wax build-up and ear infections can reduce hearing, so can some upper respiratory infections. If the ferret is an angora those have high rates of having malformed nostrils and of fur growing into the nostrils, blocking nose breathing and drainage so those can increase the risk of upper respiratory infections that could impact on hearing, too (Spoken as someone who had sinus surgery years ago partly due to impact on hearing and had it work great.).
