Should be fine, You can wash it ( I use facial wash for acne), and for mine at least whether I wash or not, by the winter it goes away by itself. Search the archives under "rat tail" and you will find some great previous post and suggestions on how to take care of it. If it seems very bad, have your vet check it out. It is hard to say for sure without actually seeing it.
