This thread has really been bothering me. Most products that I know of will leave some sort of residue, even when dry. If we walk through it, no big deal. We don't normally lick our feet. However, our pets do. Just picking up a little bit of residue can be harmful, in my opinion, certainly over time. Why take the chance?

If you MUST use these types of products, use them, let them dry and then re-wash and rinse the item. It doesn't have to stay on there to disinfect. The disinfecting takes place while it's drying. These products don't repel germs so there's no need to leave a residue there. I use a weak bleach solution (1:10) for disinfecting, and still re-rinse after it dries. And, it's really not necessary since chlorine evaporates (that's why it has to be added to pools frequently), but I do it anyway.

My local animal shelter called me about a very sick little boy dumped on them yesterday. I had him transported to my vet. My vet ran multiple tests and felt certain it was some sort of toxicity. He died around 10:00 last night. This thread popped into my mind from the minute my vet said what he thought it was. I wonder if he was accidentally poisoned in his own home by indiscriminate use of cleaning products. We'll never know but I consider it a wake-up call.

While on vacation my neighbor took care of them on one died unexpectedly. They said she seemed fine until Saturday morning and then her hair looked matted. By Monday she was gone. My boyfriend used Lysol all the time, I am not sure if he let it completely dry or not.
