Subject: painful percortin injections.

Kiwi (6yr old MF female) has had both adrenals removed, the left in 2003, and the right in 2004 and now needs an injection of percortin once a month or she crashes.
The shot really seems to hurt her a LOT. My vet gives the injection in in the muscle of her rear flank. I try giving her a treat to divert her attention, but she still fliches and struggles to get away from the needle. Last month she actually gasped in pain around the raisin I was giving her at the time.
Is there anyway to make this more comfortable for her? Can percortin be given uncer the skin? Her annual vaccinations are given that way and she never flinches at all for those. My vet is not extremely ferret knowledgable, but very willing to learn. I am dreading Thursday's appointment and I'm sure Kiwi is too. She is really starting to hate going to the vet.
