I know that eaten nicotine is poisonous for ferrets, and that they are
extremely prone to several of the very bad side effects of side-stream
smoke and direct smoke (and therefore are used in research about the
health problems of smoking), but I wonder if nicotine might be safe for
them when injected as a sepsis approach.

There is some new work (Just found a Science News article on it.) which
is expected to lead to new drugs to treat sepsis, and research on
nicotine in rats for treating sepsis has been very promising. The
sepsis part of the new mystery disease (called DIM by one of the
research teams working on it) is particularly nasty.

Anyway, for anyone interested in sepsis it is an intriguing read; I
have yet to connect to some of the links in the article.
