That isn't true. So long as the missing adrenal
products are replaced a ferret can do just fine with
no adrenal glands at all. Pertwee lived for more than
three and a half years that way after his right
adrenal gland was completely removed (vena cava was
ligated). The left gland has been previously removed.
The normal protocol would be prednisone or pediapred
(prednisolone) along with either florinef or percoten
to keep electrolytes in balance. Pertwee didn't
respond to prednisone at all so in his case we
substituted dexamethasone.
During those three and a half years he continued to be
the most insanely wired weasel I have ever known.
The usual disclaimer applies: I am not a vet, nor do
I play one on TV. I do have some experience with
bilateral adrenal ferrets (Pertwee and Ryo-Ohki),
though.
