Hello everyone:
I have run into a bit of a problem. On Sunday, my 3.5 year old male ferret had a complete urinary blockage due to stones (still waiting for the Univ. of MN Urolith Lab results). He was put on enrofloxacin twice a day for the next 14 days.
My problem comes from the fact that he is suspected of having IBD (we haven't had the chance to do a biopsy because we were waiting for this weight and health to get a little better). In Sept, he had radiographs done and there were no traces of stones, since then the only thing different has been changing his food (slowly) off of 8in1 Ultimate (and Bob Churchs Chicken Gravy or canned kitten food mixed with baby food occasionally or when sick) to IVD Rabbit and Green Pea dry and canned. And prednisolone once a day for the IBD.
Chicken appears to irritate his IBD so Hills c/d is out.
All of my research in the current ferret textbooks suggests that urinary stones usually result due to a decrease in animal protein in their food tends to lead to urinay stone/crystal formation.
I am currently looking into making duck soup with either duck or rabbit. But I am looking for other suggestions for this case. Anything would be great.
Thank you
Stephanie G.
