The melatonin implants made especially for ferrets by melatek co. (ferretonin is
what they are called) is about 20$ an implant in lots of 4, plus shipping and
handling. They go down to about 15$ an implant in lots of 12, plus shipping and
handling. Check out the melatek website, there is some great info on there.
www.melatek.net. As for the vet situation, since you do have to have a vet order
them for you...I work for a vet so I get the implants done at cost. I think 45$ is high
for the implant by itself, but I have no clue as to how vet's decided on pricing
things. I would recommend trying to find another vet willing to do the implant for
cheaper if possible. From what I have heard, implanting the melaonin capsule is no
different from implanting a microchip in a dog or cat. It sort of the same implant
system, and all the implants come in pre-packaged, one time, sterile injections,
which is great. Good luck.
