Hi all,
Mike and Sukie were right again!
1. Most ferrets will respond to doses below 500 mcg/kg/month.
Roughly 80% will respond to 100 mcg and another 10% will
respond to higher doses (200-500 mcg). Unfortunately ~10%
do not respond to Lupron. There is certainty no danger with
starting with a high dose if you would like to. The only problem
is cost.
2. It does not make sense to give Lupron only when signs return.
The once a month version only lasts for 4-5 weeks, so all the time
after that, you are letting the adrenal gland be stimulated and hormone
levels elevate and giving the adrenal gland time to enlarge. These bad
things are happening while you are waiting for signs to return. Thus it
makes more sense to give monthly!!
Hope that helps,
