I know there is alot of discussion concerning how light affects ferrets adr=
enal glands. What about how most large breeding farms take tiny babies, ju=
st a couple weeks old (we got our last one at 3 weeks - that was the vets e=
stimation- in a pet shop from a large breeder) and in one fell swoop neuter=
them, weane them, and ship them out to pet shops? I had a vet where we us=
ed to live who specialized in ferrets, and she felt that was the reason so =
many are getting adrenal tumors earlier and earlier. The neutering at such=
a young age would have to affect their hormonal systems. I talked to a fe=
rret breeder who does not spay or neuter until the ferrets are full grown, =
nor does she weane so young, and she has no adrenal disease. It does seem w=
ise to do all we can to prevent disease of all kinds, and I do try to give =
my ferrets as much darkness as I can. Their favorite: I have several bottom=
drawers emptied out with lots of towels in them, and they are open just en=
ough for a ferret to fit in. They love it! I do spend alot of time playing =
hide and seek, though! Mary
