I have a 4 yr old female who has right adrenal disease and is scheduled for
surgery on 12/7/04. The adrenal problem was determined by ultrasound about 6
wks ago. She also had evidence of an inflamed pancreas on the ultrasound and
she was treated for this, no obvious nodules. She has had two fasting blood
glucose tests in the past month and the results have been 70 and 71
respectively. She is eating and eliminating fine. She also has a knee that subluxates
(sp?) and that has been present since I adopted her about 14 months ago.
While this leg has given her problems with walking since then in recent weeks she
has much difficulty with her back legs. At times she falls to the left which
is the bad knee side, she sometimes will belly crawl and on occasion she can
actually walk ok at least for her but these times aren't very often or very
long. About 10 days ago, because of the weakness and the borderline BG, I
consulted with my vet about starting her on pediapred which she agreed to. We
started her on .25 ml 2x a day and at times this seems to help and others, not
so much. She also appears not as strong as she was, this was present prior to
medication. Another vet, other than my vet, is doing the surgery, he is a
surgeon primarily which is why I am having to wait till Dec for the surgery and
when I meet with him on that day I plan to make sure he knows about my
concerns regarding possible insulinoma and ask that he resect any nodules he might
find on her pancreas while he is doing the adrenal. My thoughts too are that
something else is in play here in regards to her symptoms since 70 isn't
extremely low for BG. Does anyone, especially the vets, have any thoughts to
offer on this. I do have an appt with my regular vet the day before the
scheduled surgery to have her checked and make sure she is strong enough for this
surgery. Thanks in advance.
