Dear Kimberly,
Sounds like what my Little Bit had, right down to the lesion on her flank. =
We had the lesion biopsied and what came back was "a bacterial event had oc=
curred". Little Bit is still alive, and my vet says it was mostly due to he=
r intense after-care. She came to work with me every day, so I could feed &=
water her every 3 hours or so. The last thing my vet tried was (I think) a=
n anti viral medication. She had been on penecillin for weeks. I think this=
helped nip any secondary infection in the bud. Seemed like after the anti-=
viral course, she perked up. She wanted kibble instead of duck soup. I had =
to re-hab her to help her learn to walk again. She had no feeling in her hi=
nd end or tail. We started with when she would eat. I would make her balanc=
e on all four paws, not just lay on her tummy. When she had to go potty, I =
held her tail up for her. Eventually we went to taking a few steps at a tim=
e in order to retrieve a treat. I can't tell you how many trips we made up =
and down my hallway! Good luck, and if your vet wants to get in touch with =
my vet, I will make sure it is okay him.
Sincerely,
Jill & Little Bit
Yesterday, we also discovered what looked like a healing absess on his lef=
t side-but we all agree we have held him for hours per day for weeks and ha=
ve felt nothing. We have put anitbiotic ointment and it appears to be disa=
ppearing.
