I stayed up all night with Shelby and listened to her little heart race and her heavy clicky breathing. She never ever shut her eyes, actually like she was on some kind of "speed" or something. I called the vet first thing this morning and he didn't really want me to take her off the enalapril. He suggested I either drive the 2 hrs. for another look or run to a local vet and have them listen for fluid. I chose to run to the local vet who said she didn't know about ferrets but felt her heart was going way too fast and heard a clicking noise. We gave her a small dose of Lasix and she has peed constantly since. She does seem to be better. My vet called back and said that a side effect from enalapril in humans is a too fast heartbeat and maybe we should take her off it and try the lasix and supplements at this time. It is very hard to find the testing here in these parts, not to mention rather costly. I had heard that Dick Bossart had good luck with the supplements??? By the way, I use the
same vet that Troy Lynn Eckart uses and we feel that he is very good. I'm just frantic about Shelby and want to help her.

Individuals do vary in responses to drugs. We had one have a fatal reaction to an antibiotic which we've never heard of another ferret being allergic to. It happens. Not often for many of those responses, but still individual variations do happen.
