Hi

There is no doubt in my mind that this little guy has adrenal disease!!!
I've never known a ferret to totally blow his (or her) coat to this
extent. I would definitely schedule exploratory surgery.

I, too, have a male who had adrenal surgery -- both the left and right
glands. The left was no problem; however, the right was cryogenically
removed. He did not get his hair back, so my vet feels he didn't get
all of the right gland out. I haven't wanted to put him through
additional surgery at this time. I, too, have been giving him melatonin
crushed and mixed with Ferretvite, and it has worked wonders on growing
his hair back. We were just at the vet on Friday, and my vet still
wants to do the surgery. Even 'tho the melatonin APPEARS (my vet is
still skeptical) to be working for the hair re-growth, it is NOT
removing the adrenal problem. I have scheduled his second surgery for
right after the first of the year.

Go for the surgery!

I have a male silver that came to our shelter October 14, totally naked
except for some fur on his head and feet. After about a week I started
giving him 1 mg of melatonin, crushed and made tasty with Ferretone, and
it's usually around suppertime- 6 pm or later. After just a few days he
started to sprout little tufts on his shoulders and now it's all over
and
about half the final length.
