Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret Question - Diarrhea, hind in weakness,

What is rebound?

Has anyone who has had a ferret with this mystery disease seen the symptoms
in their other ferrets in the same household? It doesn't sound to be
contagious yet. We lost a girl in September with the same symptoms that many
posters have reported in their sick ferrets (hind end weakness, not eating,
sleeping a lot and passing away). It happened really sudden. I hope that
someone can find a cure for this, before more ferrets are lost to it. We
have a checkup for all 3 of ours next week and I will be asking our vet if
she's heard of it.

Lethary, Not Eating

Last week we had a ferret come to us with diarrhea, hind in weakness,
lethargy, and not eating or drinking on her own. Her spleen is enlarged and
feels
hard to the touch, the edges of the spleen are very pronounced. Also, we
think
at some point in time she may have suffered a back injury as she was found
roaming the street in very bad condition.

Her new owner had her for about 4 months, she was to the vets on Friday,
November 19, 2004, blood work was run and came back normal in value, so the
vet
decided to treat her for worms and she crashed within 8 hours of receiving
her first dose of dewormer. The owner contacted us and we have been working
with
her since.

Since then we have been feeding her a mixture of AD (20cc) and Rebound
(12cc) every 4 to 5 hours using a syringe, but there has been little to no
improvement so far.

She is at the vet's now, but we're hoping someone out there might have seen
something like this before and be able to help.
