I regularly ask both teams researching a possible cause of any cases where more than one ferret in a household has had it and the last time I heard none are known of so far.
It looks to be a more indirect route which allows of regional clumps rather than a direct contagion, unless it is something which is normally easily fought off before any symptoms can show.
The distribution pattern is -- and always has been -- so weird that I would really like to see a vet epidemiologist take an interest in this thing.
