Angie,
I had the same experience when Neeko had his first heart crisis. I did not sleep at
all, I watched his breathing all night. It was so fast I was wondering how he could
breath so fast like that without passing out. He did not move much all night, and I
layed awake with him until morning when I took him to the vet when they first
opened. The vet could not hear fluid, so be careful on relying on how he sounds,
alone. This is when he had his first chest x ray and ecg. He had alot of fluid in and
around his lungs. And the ecg showed an arrhythmia, which is what caused the fluid
to back up. He was put on an initial high dose of lasix, and he did urinate alot at
first. This relieved him of his fast breathing. He is now on a low maintainence dose
of lasix to keep fluid out. He is also on benezapril and pimobendan to control the
arrhythmia. He was diagnosed in May of this year and is stabilized since being put
on heart meds.. Lasix for your girl might be enough for now, but you should
probably get a cardiac ultrasound done if you are worried about cardiomyopathy.
This will tell you exactly what is wrong with her heart and will let the vets know
which drugs will help her.
