Okay, I am going to be brief because I don't feel well, but I personally suspect that you may have had something like a bit of bleach around that you didn't know was there. We've been there, years ago, and you know how those bottles cause some hard to find drips to fly. The presentation was the same: projectal vomiting of blood and then internal bleeding and she could not have found more than one or two drops. Luckily, our vet saved her.

Mike gave you some studies, there are more mentioned in the Archives, yet more can be found by going to Pubmed, Hubmed, or other such resources.

ALL of our bodies have melatonin in them in every 24 hour period because our own pineal glands make it. It's a normal part of us.

I'm sorry but for melatonin itself that just does not at all make sense. It can make sense for a problem with the product like a dangerous type of product tampering, or for the ferrets getting into something that you didn't know was there, and ferrets do that -- it's part of them being ferrets. That's why whoever first wrote that "ferret proofing is never finished" wrote one of the wisest concise ferret statements that exist.
