Have other infectious causes such as ECE http://www.afip.org/ferrets/ECE/ECE.html , coccidia, or giardia been considered? (Though this doesn't sound as bad as I would expect IF I am guessing right about the time frame for

If it is rare and intermittent have you considered that there may be a stash of something which has spoiled with some having learned to not eat it, but not all catching on yet?

If it a helicobacter flare up then, yes, it can take a while.

The treatments used most commonly are:
Biaxin and Amoxi (sometimes with Carafate spaced apart from those in case of ulcers)
or
Amoxi, Metronidazole/Flagyl, and Pepto Bismol or generic for the bismuth which costs less but which they mind more and which seems to take longer at times.
